Kazakhstan Crowned Asian Champions in Men’s Sitting Volleyball
Hangzhou, China – June 14 — In a landmark victory, the Kazakhstan men’s national sitting volleyball team captured their first-ever Asian Championship title, overcoming host nation China in a thrilling five-set battle, 3–2 (22:25, 19:25, 25:19, 25:20, 8:5).
Kazakhstan’s campaign was nothing short of dominant. In the group stage, they swept past Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Australia without dropping a set (3–0 in all matches). The team carried their momentum into the semifinals, defeating Thailand with another decisive 3–0 win. The final podium saw Kazakhstan claim gold, China secure silver, and Thailand take bronze.
Individual excellence shone alongside team achievement: Erik Kaskabayev was named Best Server, Shyngys Medeuov earned Best Libero, and Almat Ospanov was awarded Best Blocker.
“The final was incredibly intense. China dominated the first two sets, but our players showed remarkable resilience, character, and the will to win. They turned the game around and brought home the gold. This is a historic moment for Kazakhstan in sitting volleyball. We are deeply grateful to our partners — Citi, Sport Qory, and Samruk-Kazyna JSC — for their unwavering support,” said head coach Bauyrzhan Takauov.
The Asian Sitting Volleyball Championship took place from June 6 to 14 in Hangzhou, featuring eight men’s and seven women’s national teams. With this victory, both Kazakhstan and China have qualified for the 2026 World Championship, which will also be hosted in China.
